Sailing on the Nieuw Amsterdam Holland America Cruise Ship

Experience your 22 Night Cruise beginning in San Antonio, Chile and ending in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  You will have 9 different ports along the way, spend 4 full days in the Antarctic Peninsula doing Expedition Cruising.  You are also going to be seeing the Chilean Fjords, Amalia Glacier, and cruising the Sarmiento Canal.  I have always heard of sailing the Staits of Magellan and you will be doing that.  Did you ever think you would be cruising Cape Horn and sailing the Drake Passage?  This is all part of your cruise.

I wondered what Expedition Cruising meant

so I asked and this is what I found:

Expedition cruising with Holland America Line in the Antarctic means experiencing "scenic cruising" from the comfort of a large cruise ship. You will not disembark, walk on the continent, or take Zodiac boats. 

True expedition cruising—which involves riding motorized Zodiacs, kayaking, and stepping foot on the actual ice—is restricted to smaller, specialized expedition vessels (typically under 200–500 passengers). 

I checked to see the pricing in January and it was between $15,000.00 to $20,000.00 per person going up to $40,000.00 per person depending on the ship and length of the cruise for true expedition cruising. 

On this cruise you get to see the 7th Continent and experience the wildlife, amazing ice sculptures, ice fields, etc. but are not paying as much money.

Pricing for your cruise is as follows:

Interior Stateroom Beginning Price - $4,829.00 per person

Ocean View Obstructed View Price - $5,269.00 per person

Ocean View Unobstructed View Price - $5,769.00 per person

Balcony Stateroom starting price - $6,430.00 per person

This price includes your cruise fare, government taxes and fees and port expenses.

This does not include airfare or hotel if arriving early.  I did find out Holland America has a hotel in San Antonio, Chile for $388.00 per night, which includes transfers from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the cruise ship.

If this interests you sign up soon, as this cruise will sell out.  So many people want the chance to experience Antarctica and not that many larger ships go there at a price that is more reasonable.  Don't be left out!

San Antonio, Chile

Puerto Montt, Chile

Puerto Montt is a bustling port city and the capital of Chile's Los Lagos region. Established by German immigrants in 1853, it serves as the primary gateway to the Chilean Lake District, Chiloé Island, and northern Patagonia.

Puerto Chacabuco, Chile

  

Puerto Chacabuco is a quiet, remote town at the head of the Aisén Fjord in northern Chilean Patagonia. Acting as the Aysén Region's primary port, it is a popular stopping point for Patagonian cruises and the premier gateway to glacial lakes, lush rainforests, and rugged Andean peaks.

Punta Arenas, Chile

Punta Arenas is the capital of Chile's southernmost region, Magallanes and Antarctica Chilena. Situated on the Strait of Magellan, it is the largest city in Chilean Patagonia and the premier global gateway to Antarctica. The city is famous for its sub-Antarctic climate, maritime history, and role as a base for exploring Torres del Paine.

Ushuaia, Argentina, known as the "End of the World," is the southernmost city globally. Nestled between the snow-capped Martial Mountains and the icy Beagle Channel, it serves as the primary jumping-off point for Antarctic expeditions and offers rugged Patagonian wilderness right at its doorstep.

The Antarctic Peninsula is the northernmost arm of mainland Antarctica, stretching 1,300 km (810 miles) toward the southern tip of South America. Separated from the continent by the Drake Passage, it is the warmest and most biologically diverse part of Antarctica, featuring bustling penguin colonies, towering glaciers, and massive icebergs.

Home to nearly 3,000 residents (about 80% of the territory's population), it serves as the political and economic hub and a popular jumping-off point for ecotourism and wildlife viewing. The Falkland Islands have a complex, 500-year history defined by European exploration, shifting colonial claims, and an ongoing sovereignty dispute between the United Kingdom and Argentina. The islands were entirely uninhabited until the late 18th century,

Puerto Madryn, Argentina

  

Puerto Madryn is a coastal city in Argentine Patagonia, renowned as the wildlife capital of Argentina. Founded by Welsh settlers in 1865, it serves as the primary gateway to the UNESCO-listed Península Valdés, famous for its spectacular marine life.

Punta del Este, Uruguay

Punta del Este is a glamorous seaside city on Uruguay’s Atlantic coast. Known as the "St. Tropez of South America", it serves as a luxurious playground for the international jet set. It is celebrated for its bustling summer nightlife, pristine beaches, and upscale dining.

Montevideo, Uruguay
